I wake up in the night, sweating. My heart racing. My ears ringing with the sound from my dream, the sound of the rifle, the sound of the impact, the sound of him hitting the ground. The pain in my eyes.
I can feel the sweat on me. Just like I could feel it through my fatigues so many years ago. The pain in my eyes, from seeing a thousand jungle sunrises. From dark to day in a moment.
But this moment will never leave me. Although the sun still rises, I will allways see they dark. The memory will stay with me. The sorrow and regret.

Have a cashew.
"You can have that," said Sensei C, pointing at a chip on the floor. "But that's not a pepperoni..." said George. Sensei C responded..."Everything is a pepperoni... unless it's not."

It's about this time of year I really feel it. It was the time of year I came home from The 'Nam. I had gone away good, fit, together and awaiting my piece of the war.
Call it the folly of youth, but we were young -we wanted to go to that war, it seemed like the right thing to do - we thought we could kick their asses. But it kinda didn't happen like that. Quite the reverse.
We were in a firefight, I called out, the figure didn't respond. I lined up those sights, the shot was a good one man, a good one, even before my hand started to tighten for the trigger to pull.
He started to turn and rather than having the shot at the back if the head, I thought I would give it a few milliseconds before he turns, give me more to shoot at. My mind was racing. I had killed in a fire fight by blaring my gun everywhere and what I now addmit to myself was 'accicidental killing' - thats how I lived with seeing so many enemy go down.
It allways hurt me when one of my comrades got it.
I never actually saw one of our guys die tho. They were allways sniped, or destroyed with booby traps. Not like the enemy I sniped. I was the company sniper. Half the time I was involved in what you would call normal duties, for the other half I headed a sniper team of two, sometimes four.
You would see a comrade, go to check they are still there and they are shot dead or blown up.
My hand squeezed, and I FELT the path of the bullet from my shoulder to he head. I can allready hear the crack and the wet noise.
And then he turns...
Turns and a finger of sunlight penetrates the deep canopy and twists its way through the mist
And touches upon his face....

I dont know why I shouted. Well, to tell the truth, I thought he would hear me and duck and it would all be allright but it wasnt allright and nothing ever would be ever again.
Christmas is the time I came home. It wasnt a happy time. It was back home I started to have the nightmares. I can see him
through the scope. I know its him.
No.
No. No. No. NO.
