Helloo anyone who is still around!
Thought I would post something as I was listening back to old songs of everyone's the other day.
Anyone else miss this place for competitions/compositions, I came to realisation that since this place went to shit I have been nowhere near as productive in writing music as I was. There was a whole lot of motivation round this place, always inspiration from hearing other peoples tunes and things. I started to miss it, and its only when you listen back you realise how much awesome music has been made by people on this site. Its truly a pretty unique place.
How is everyone doing these days anyway?

I haven't been around since early last year, but I totally feel where you're coming from. My production has plummeted and I really miss participating in the competitions, either as a judge, competitor or just a listener
And I refuse to switch over to 'that other' site. Just wouldn't be the same.
Hope everyone's been well otherwise

Of course the other tab site isn't the same, but, still. I go there for competitions only, keeps me creative and keeps me pushing myself further.
I find the people here were more fun though.

Good to see you back here Jester.
I listen to old MSB compositions from many users quite often, as I put them on a CD some years ago ("Winter Wine" has gone to a level where I see it as the best piece of music I have ever heard).
I myself haven't done any new music in the last couple of years. I was never good at it and never had the time or will to go into real music with real recordings and such. Every now and then I play some old and easy songs on the guitar, harmonica or piano for my own joy.

From time to time the same nostalgia comes to me too. And about motivation, I completely agree with you **Jester**. Also what about the only lady of this site? how is she pal?
aerguin I always liked the way you were thinking of writing solo's so Gilmourish.
I miss everybody from this site. right I was always at back ground, just reading what you were writing but still I miss everybody with their unique way of writing styles.
who else is 'round here?

Same feeling here... Motivation, absolutely, is not the same as before, even for me (that's not a professional musician).
Btw, I use to listen the old good songs of this site too.
About the block, I think that's very strange this site die because of that. I mean, the most active members used to participate in the competitions of MSB and that was what really brings a lot of activity for the site. In my opinion, one factor which was critical was the fault of seriousness in the last competitions. Not of the competitors, but of the judges. I know, I know that the judges don't have any gain in judging. But it's a commitment and the competitors get frustrated in don't have this important feedback.
Anyway, it's just my opinion.
At least, we still have the site (with this wonderful songs) on-line .

I guess we all lost the spark with MSB's decline, so lets revieve it!
Well, the site "died" because people left it. The problem it has is it lack of new blood, since younger people who's new to composing songs can't get any ideas/inspiration from bands they know of. And then they go somewhere else, and since the excisting clientel of this site leaves, it is slowly draining away.

This is a bit strange for me. It seems that the old members don't participate of the site anymore, but at least they are always taking a look here.
Actually, that's very good, because, maybe, we just need a "start shot" to the things come back to be like before...

Good luck, everyone is taking a look, but if noone posts anything, nothing will happen, and that is really sad, since this site is "the shit", as some would say.

It's also difficult to get new blood if each time a new member opens a thread asking for something they are answered with a plain "fuck you and die".

They are usually deleted (i just deleted about 10 of those), but it is known that we are not so active these days, so it's very probable the user already read the answer.
About answering, there is not much to answer in the tab request forum for example.

Fret not, friends, for the spirit of **Jester** lives on in this thread: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1034543&page=1&pp=20
(hint: download the song in the first post, listen to the section at bar 50, and then listen to Octopus at bar 107 to experience a pretty sneaky copypasta)

I've never been a fertile composer, but leaving this place really pushed my musical abilities down! Well, maybe it wasn't the main reason but I guess it didn't help either... No rivalry, no need to develop myself cause I'm still the best composer among my non-composing people!
I've been through a terrible writer's block for about 2 or 3 years and can't really say like I feel it's over. My main composing problem was always repetitions and when I got a part-time job as a film music composer (hallelujah!) the director told me LOOPS are the key. I've been doing my best ever since to break the loops in a manner he couldn't recognize, but it never helped me get out of my 'repetition syndrome'. I'm trapped in a musical corner, composing tunes like workers compose pavement... These days I'm struggling for hours over one minute piano piece when back in MSB glory days I'd written my three best tunes in a four days one after another!
Not that I give up, oh no. My muse is a mean bitch and catching her ass is really hard, but I'm building a ladder with all '... for the dummies' and 'how to..' series and finally I'll be able to catch her tiny ankle. When it's done I swear I'll never release it.
Tons of books about composing and recording led me to conclusion that for me particulary (as a composer and not performer) eartraining is crucial. Nowadays I'm not spending much time with my instruments, I'm working on a midi controller practicing active listening about an hour daily. I've also attended a music course a month ago, we'll see if that will help.
Great to read all You huys again!
That's all folks...

Bloody hell, its like a reunion in here, just need nudedude, daneo, cunyet and its a full house. From time to time, I download the demo and listen to some stuff. The best suff imo was by Rox-Ville and IronFist, but it all seems to have gone from the net. Have just bought!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5.2. Odd paying for things on the net.
People move on, I seem to be more into weight lifting, fixing up my collection of broken / semi broken cars and 4x4s, maintaining and repairing my 120 year old house, college (not that I enjoy that), NLP/ hypnosis, linux, wood and metal work, gardening, home brew, good food...
I probably pick up one of my guitars once every 3 months.
It is a sin to waste god given talent
